Big and Tall Sweaters For Fall

Big and Tall Sweaters
Fall will be here before you know it. The leaves will start to turn, the nights will get chilly and it will be sweater weather. Sweaters have come a long way from your grandpa’s old cardigan. There was a time when sweaters were associated with Mr. Rogers or an elderly college professor. Today, most men have a sweater or two in their wardrobe. Maybe Bill Cosby’s zany sweater collection turned the tide. These days sweater are worn by young and old. The big and tall man is no exception. My big guy will wear a cardigan or a sweater vest, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot get him into pullover or any patterned sweater… He wears sweatshirts, so what’s the difference? I have not given up, though, because there aer so many beautiful big and tall sweaters.
Sweaters for the big and tall man are larger and longer than average. They come in wool, acrylics, and even cashmere. Most men seem to prefer solid colors or a subtle pattern, but argyle is making a comeback among the younger, more fashion forward men. I love the fisherman’s knit sweater with jeans, but I will have to dream on. My man would freeze to death before wearing one.
Cardigans are very big in women’s fashion right now. Men are also wearing them with button down shirts as an alternative to a jacket on casual work days. The zip front cardigans are pretty popular too, especially with young men. I have seen some great looking ones with suede or leather trim and sometimes with hood. Some of the heavier knit cardigans can double as a jacket even when it’s cold.
A crewneck or v-neck sweater is a great addition to a man’s winter wardrobe. They can be worn casually with a turtleneck and jeans or to work with a dress shirt and pants.
A sweater vest looks nice with dress clothes. You can add a sports coat for an unmatched suit look, or wear one with your suit to add some color or pattern. You cannot go wrong with cashmere for a dressy look.
If you want your guy to wear a big and tall sweater and he is less than enthusiastic, stress the stretchy comfort factor. Start out with a nice solid color, no pastels or patterns. Tell him how great he looks and ease him gently into the sweater experience. Big and tall men can wear sweaters just like their smaller counterparts. Find one that fits well and he’ll thank you for it once he gets used to the idea.
