Ok, don’t laugh at this title. This is not about the old woman in the shoe’s house. While I’m sure her house was both big and tall in order to accommodate all those children, this is about shoes for big and tall men. They have some specific need that is not addressed by most shoe stores unless you are willing to special order. Even so, big and tall shoes can be found. Ever seen a barefoot basketball player?
Very tall men often have very large feet. Think Shaquille O’ Neal or many other basketball players. Where does one buy size 16 shoes? They look like a small piece of carry on luggage. Shops and catalogs for big and tall men often carry hard to find sizes and widths of shoes. Traditional shoes stores rarely have anything in stock over size 12.
My husband does not have a big foot. He wears a 9 ½, but he needs a triple E width and sometimes buys a larger size than he needs to get a little more width.
Of course catalogs for hard to find sizes have been around for a while, but they are very expensive. Someone has finally recognized that big and tall men need more shoe options without breaking the bank. King Size catalog carries a variety of sneakers and athletic shoes up to size 16 and 4E widths for about the same price you would pay for any good sneaker. Florsheim dress shoes and Hush Puppy casual shoes are also available. The casual shoes are offered in lace up and Velcro styles. Sandals and slippers can also be ordered. Oops, I forgot about water shoes. Those are kind of a new thing. We never wore shoes when we went to a lake or beach, but I guess pollution kind of ruined the barefoot experience.

I was surprised to find just typing big and tall shoes into the search bar opened a world of options. You can have some great looking shoes in any size or width. Now if you are particular about your shoes, you can find an incredible store that only sells big and tall shoes, and yes, basketball players fock there.
